Hi, I'm Alexa Cushing! I am currently a sophomore in high school and look forward to graduating in 2024. Ever since I was little I knew I wanted to swim competitively. And that's exactly what I've been doing ever since. My parents put me in swimming lessons at the age of 4 and I fell in love with the water. A few years later, I started swimming competitively for my hometown's YMCA team (the Evansville Riptides) and swam for their team for four years. I qualified for state each year I was on their team. As a high school swimmer, I love the intensity of meets with many other schools. I feel that the pressure makes me work at my best because I know how to positively stay in my head. What makes me different from other recruiters is that I have such a passion for my sport and am very confident in it. I am also very coachable and am always willing to participate in the events my coach puts me in, no matter if it is my best/favorite stroke or not. I strive to get better and put in the work in and outside of practice. Though I am an average student academically, I have a great work ethic and persist to become better. Something else that is different about me compared to other swimmers is that my favorite stroke is the butterfly. It's been pretty hard to get where I'm at today in it, but I love doing it and am the only swimmer, out of both the males & the females on my high school team, that does the 100 fly.
