My name is Claire Monahan, I am 16 years old and have been swimming on a swim team since I was 5 years old. I love swimming, but I also love academics and doing well in my classes. Currently, I receive straight A's and it is because I work hard and take time to accomplish my goals in the classroom above everything else. I am aiming to become a veterinarian, paramedic, or physical therapist after college. Swimming is a passion of mine. I practice all week and put in every effort I can while I am in the pool. I am resilient…when I have a bad meet, I don't let it get me down and I keep working hard. Another word I would describe myself is responsible. I have been getting myself up at 5:45 am every day on my own since I was in 6th grade. I also cook meals when my parents are not around and take care of things around the house. My teacher and coaches would describe me as a hardworking, responsible, and an intelligent student/swimmer. I have included some of their comments about me below. Thank you!
"Claire is an amazing student; wise beyond her years. She always gives 100% to her work and contributes rich and deep discussion to our class." -Kara Nixon, 8th Grade Teacher of English and Language Arts
"Claire is such a wonderful young lady! Not only is she a team player in the classroom, she is so compassionate towards others. Claire is incredibly focused and always puts forth her best effort on all assignments. If she has a question, she is not afraid to ask. With all of the challenges we faced this school year, Claire has risen to the occasion and excelled. I can see Claire's dedication academically as well as to swimming. There are not many students with dedication like Claire. I have been very fortunate to have Claire as a student this year!" -JoBeth Shafer, Science Teacher, Athletic Director
"Claire, you have been an awesome asset to our Social Studies class this year! You participate daily, turn in all assignments on time, work well with your peers, and go with the flow of class. You lead by example among your peers . It is obvious that you understand the importance of your education. Thank you for all you do! Keep working hard and you will do great things! -Nick Dorning, Social Studies Teacher, Ryle High School Head Basketball Coach
