I was told that my first word was “turtle.” And just like many others, it started as one word and grew abundantly over time. However, no one really realizes how growing in such a big way can leave you vulnerable. You don’t always know what you are going to say and you confuse words for others. As John C. Maxwell said, “Growth demands a temporary surrender of security.” This quote guides me through the hard times along my life’s journey.
In the pool, I work hard and strive for excellence while also performing with pride and satisfaction in my attempt. I go to Warren Woods Tower High School where I have made the varsity swim team every year since I was a freshman. I have placed top 8 every year at the Macomb County Swim & Dive Championship Meet, competing against swimmers from 24 schools. In my sophomore year, I broke three WWT Varsity records and re-broke with personal best times as a junior. Although I primarily swim butterfly events, I do like to swim backstroke and freestyle events as well. I have been named “Swimmer of the Meet” at the MAC Divisions Meet both my sophomore and junior year. In my junior year, I had five MISCA Meet cuts. In my sophomore year, I was excited to qualify for the MHSAA Division II State Championship Meet in 100 Butterfly. I qualified for finals, swam on the second day and placed 13th with a final time of 59.66. In my junior year, I qualified again for the D2 State Meet in 100 Butterfly and 100 Backstroke. My final time in the 100 Backstroke was 1:01.68. I qualified for finals again in the 100 Butterfly, with a final time of 57.71, earning me 8th Place and MHSAA All-State honors.
Out of high school season, I swim year-round for the Great LakesTritons Swim Team. I have participated in the Michigan Swimming (USA Swimming) State Meet since 2017. I have competed at State Meets in both Short Course Yards and Long Course Meters. In the summer going into my junior year, I also had the opportunity to go to the 2019 Summer Sectional Meet where I swam fly in the 400 Medley Relay. I qualified for and was planning to compete at the 2020 Spring Sectional Meet in the 100 Butterfly, 100 Backstroke, and 50 Freestyle. Due to Covid-19, the 2020 Championship Season was cut short. While I am disappointed, it leaves more time and space to improve before the next big meet and I, like so many athletes, have learned many life lessons in recent weeks.
Further in life, I plan to go into the medical field. I want to obtain a Bachelor of Science that I will then use to go to medical school where I aspire to one day become an orthopedic surgeon. Working my way to that position, I currently attend the Macomb Mathematics Science Technology Center for half of my daily class load. I tested into this program near the end of middle school. At this school, I learn at an accelerated level and I am tought to apply a lot of what I learn to real life situations. Some examples of these works, as well as a transcript and my resume can be seen on my online portfolio (link included). I know that reaching my goal will not be easy but I am determined to get there. Putting forward my hardest effort and an unbelievable amount of positivity to help we along the way.
