I became interested in swimming when a swim lesson teacher advised me to join the Northfield Bull Shark Swim Club when I was ten. She talked with my mom and myself personally after the last day of lessons. She said I was very good at swimming and should consider joining. However, I had not done any sport in my life because I was very shy, so I didn't really want to join. I eventually joined and it was the best decision I had made in my entire life. Swimming has made me outgoing, a hard worker, passionate, and helped make me, me. It has also made my mood happy and cheerful and has helped me be motivated in other activities including school and grades.
I have been very blessed to have such a great high school team that has very high team spirit, inclusion, respect, and is hard working. All of these traits has a big influence on me. The team has helped me to learn how to stay positive, have a good attitude and push myself. I think every team should have all of these characteristics. Additionally, I have volunteered for many events such as cleaning up litter in parks, waitressing for a fancy church dinner, helped at swim meets as a timer and helped at awards table and collected food for the food shelf. I have also been on a mission trip to northern Minneapolis, Minnesota and I helped with the elderly at a nursing home. In addition, I have been recommended by my teachers for many events such as the first ever Red Yarn Stories. The Red Yarn Stories was a great event that pushed me out of my comfort zone because I had to sit and eat dinner with a group of specially picked people that I did not know. We also had to talk to them and talk about ourselves for seven straight minutes. I was also recommended by my high school teachers "as an outstanding young person who is both a leader and someone with great ideas to help make our community an even better place to live" to apply to serve on a local youth board or non profit organization. The application is due April 18, 2017.
Some of my goals for high school is to get straight A's and a GPA of 4.0. Also in the future I would like to be in advanced, honors, and/or AP classes. For college I would like to get good grades as well and to study for a career that interests me, makes me happy, do what I love and is fun for me.
