My name is Kendall Coppersmith! I am currently a Junior at Rogers High School in Rogers, Minnesota. I swim varsity on the Rogers HS Swim Team and have since I was in the 7th grade. I started swimming at the YMCA when I was about five years old and I started competing when I was seven years old.
I first started swimming because my parents wanted me to do something active. Since I apparently hated to sweat, swimming was the only thing they could think of that disguised it. (tricky parents!) Once I started classes I found that I loved the water so much it became my passion. It has also become my therapy. I was diagnosed with ADHD and anxiety in 2nd grade. When I swim, it takes all of that struggle away. So, you could say I need the pool and I need to swim to keep focused and happy.
My favorite stoke to swim in is the 100 Back. I am tall (five-foot-ten and still growing! My dad is six-foot-four) and have a long reach. This gives me an advantage by giving me a longer stroke that I can apply more power with. It also makes me an excellent candidate for your swim team! My goal by the end of my junior season is to hit under one minute. For my senior year, I want to get under 57 seconds, which would be a new pool record. My coaches have told me this absolutely something that I can accomplish. I also like the 50 Free because when I swim it, it feels like I am flying. I am able to swim it with only two breaths consistently, and my goal is to lower that breath count by the end of the season.
My academic aspirations have shifted over the past few years. I'm still trying to figure out what options are out there in the field I am curious about. Ultimately I want to be involved in English and writing. I am currently enrolled in PSEO classes. My goal is to have my Associate's Degree completed when I graduate high school.
When asking my coaches and teammates why they like me on their team, they have responded with "You are always on deck uplifting everyone and cheering'", "We love your attitude!" "You are one of the most valuable team members! You consistently score points at each meet." "When at practice you are energetic, fun, and happy-go-lucky. But, when at the meet when you get in the water, the Power-House personality comes out.", "We LOVE you on the team! As a swimmer, as a person, as a teammate. We are so grateful you are on the team!"
Thank you for taking the time to read a little about me!
