Hello, I am Alexandra Sasha Babenko and I am from Bergen County, New Jersey! I come from a Ukrainian family, and I have been swimming since I was 9. Swimming has led me to learn an abundance of qualities, lessons, and experiences.
Swimming enriched me in discovering myself and the person I want to become. Every single practice, every single meet, every single workout leads to a realm of vulnerability and fear-physically and mentally, but it makes me become this tenacious person whom I am grateful for. The world that is created when my body enters the water- it is tranquil, cherished, and yet painful.
There is a certain peace that comes with swimming, how silent the world becomes when you swim and how important I become to myself when I swim. Under the water there is no coach, there is no responsibility, there is no war, it is just silent; it is all about me, not the cruel world around me. When I am in the water I become this strong person, I am filled with positivity, concentration, resilience, confidence, and sportsmanship.
In the future I hope to join a swim team with passion, emotional investment, and sportsmanship. I want to grow as a person, and even more as a swimmer. I want to be able to apply all the lessons I have learned throughout my swim career and become the best swimmer I possibly can be, in the water and outside of it.
