I started swimming for Mandan Marlins Swim Club at 7 years old and right away I made swimming a priority in my life. I qualified during my first ever meet and went to my first North Dakota state in 2013. My seventh grade year I joined the Mandan high school swim team coached under Ralph Manley at the time. That year I truly learned how much work swimming requires. I qualified that year in the 100 fly after working for weeks to improve my turns and underwaters. My eighth grade year I qualified in multiple events for state. I swam the 100 fly and 100 back at state and I finished 11th in the back with a time of 1:01.72. After that race I was convinced I could swim in the next level.
I have learned from swimming leadership, mental toughness, and how to push myself. This year I was voted as team captain of the high school swim team, this opportunity has pushed me out of my comfort zone as I've had to learn to communicate more effectively and lead with everyone's understanding. These skills will benefit me throughout the rest of high school, college. and life.
At Mandan High School I've completed AP Biology (passing with a 3) and dual credit probability and statistics. Currently I'm enrolled in AP US History and AP Language and Composition and have maintained a GPA of 4.0. I enjoy volunteering around the community and am part of the National Honor Society. I am a strong believer that academics come before sports and I wish to continue my learning in college by majoring in something with mathematics, whether its engineering or statistics, I don't know but will decide over time.
