I began my love for swimming at a young age. As a toddler, I loved the water; my parents took me swimming several times a week to Centennial pool in my hometown, Truro. I had never assumed that swimming would have such a large impact on my life. When I began to learn how to swim at swimming lessons, I struggled; failing several different levels of lessons solely for being unable properly swim breaststroke. I still enjoyed the sport, so when I got older the desire to better my breaststroke influenced my decision to join a swim team. Training under the Truro Centurions Swim Club, I continued to work on my breaststroke. Since then I had always put large amounts of effort into swimming, as I enjoyed the outcome of hard work. As I look back at my old struggles earlier on in the sport, I am proud of how far I have come. I have collegiate goals that years ago I would have never assumed were possible for me. I would like to achieve personal bests, and to qualify for an NCAA championship final.
To achieve these collegiate goals, I am ready to take advantage of future opportunities and strive for excellence with what I am given. I am a competitive, self driven and a positive student-athlete. I am excited to be part of the varsity athlete experience I will receive in college/university. I look forward to building new friendships with coaches and teammates. I have always been a supporting teammate to those I have trained and competed with. I import a positive and motivating attitude to the pool to motivate myself and my teammates. Maintaining a positive mindset has assisted me in improving in the sport. I am willing to any sort of feedback given to me for faster swimming. I am a dedicated, motivated swimmer. I have been given opportunities to represent Nova Scotia on provincial teams for events like the 2017 Canada Games and the 2019 Mel Zajac International Championships, and understand that I am there to contribute my part towards the success of the team.
Beyond the training in the pool, I spend my time as a multisport athlete playing soccer for the junior varsity team, and running for the track and field team at my school. On my weekends I enjoy surfing with my family. Academically, one of my primary objectives is to complete a bachelor of science degree to continue my path towards medical school. I have always given all my efforts towards academics and sport; I enjoy the feeling of success, and continue to work hard for more.
