My name is Emily Kusar, I strongly believe I have fulfilled my duties as an athlete, a leader, and a young adult. I have shown my strength as a leader through my hard work and dedication in cross country and swimming while exhibiting great skills in my community. Both of my Sports I have proved to be a leader due to me being an upperclassman and always ready to give positive speeches to motivate my teammates. Every practice I go to, I strive to push my teammates to their limits even when our workout is brutal. During meets I love to give feedback to my teammates about how well they did. As well as taking care of them before me. During cross-country season when we finished the race there would always be water waiting for us at the finish line. Each time I would wait at the finish line holding several water bottles for my teammates even after I competed. I have proved to my coaches especially in swimming I am a dedicated hard working athlete. I started competitive swim in 8th grade. As an 8th grader I was already behind most kids younger than me. For example, my 50 free time was 42 seconds and many kids my age were 30 seconds. I did not like being behind and being the worst swimmer in my grade. So ever since then I have put my blood, sweat and tears into swimming. I dedicated myself to swimming all year round as well as signing up for several swim camps to help with technique. As a freshman I only had one year of swimming experience but I worked my butt off and by the end of the season I was already at 28 seconds for a 50 free.
I have always enjoyed being an athlete as well as being a great high school student. My grades throughout High School exceeded that of the criteria meant for National Honor Society. My cumulative GPA waited an average of 3.75. I took many honors classes and started to take AP courses. Also I've helped many of my teammates out of school with their classes. People can rely on me for help and guidance because I take the right steps to achieve success in my life. All my teachers depend on me to get all my work done on time and turn it in with excellence. I have assured my teachers that I'm willing to work hard in class. Even when I fail a test, I make sure to go back to what I did wrong, study and get ready to retake the test no matter how long it takes. Several of my teachers can agree with that statement. I have also dedicated my time in my community by volunteering at local blood drives and working on a community project with leadership lake county. This year’s project, we have decided to partner with an assisted living facility and build a wellness and memory garden on site for the residents to enjoy. By creating a safe and comfortable outdoor space of their own they can visit, garden, enjoy nature, play games etc. I enjoy doing both service activities not because it looks good for college but it teaches me to have better communication skills, be thankful for my lifestyle and makes me feel good that I am helping others. Thank you for taking your time to read this.
