Swimming. My sport. My passion. It has given me my confidence and my determination. The water is a place where I can be competitive in a healthy environment and truly embrace who I am as an athlete and a person.
This season, I have been selected to train with the Ontario Swim Academy. This program places me on the provincial high performance pathway. The intensity and challenge provided by the OSA aligns with my work ethic, desire to continue to improve, and my goals to compete at the highest level possible.
My top events are the 50 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle, 200 Freestyle, 50 Backstroke and 100 Backstroke and 50 Butterfly. I am the current Ontario Provincial Bronze Medalist in 100m Freestyle for 15 year old women. In the 100m Freestyle and 50m Freestyle, I am currently the 7th and 13th fastest 15 year-old in Ontario, although I am always seeking to improve my current achievements. I push myself in my training daily and work closely with my coaches taking in their feedback openly. As an athlete, my values include a supportive team culture with strong coaching direction.
I have competed for Whitby Swimming and most recently, the Ontario Swim Academy, on the National and Provincial level. I hold numerous club age group records with Whitby Swimming and have been awarded the “Performance Award”, “Coach’s Award” and “Teammate Award”. I have also been selected to participate in Swim Ontario camps, most recently the Provincial Youth Camp (200 stroke) along with the Ontario Junior International Fundamentals Training Camp.
Education continues to be a priority for me. I was awarded the Academic Achievement Award, the Literary Award and recognition for Honor Roll when I graduated from the eighth grade. In my first year of high school, I was recognized on the Cardinal Carter Honor Roll for earning an average over 90%. I also continue to be involved in leadership opportunities through being a Student Leader for at-risk students and a Peer Mediator. I pride myself in working hard to develop strong time management skills as a student and an athlete. I have learned the importance of using my time wisely to create balance between my academics and sport.
Swimming has come to define an integral piece of who I am. My journey to reach where I am and where I want to go has come with many challenges and achievements. I have come to know myself as an athlete and know that I am looking for a team that has strong coaching feedback and a team culture that is supportive where the athletes build each other up. I have had to work hard and make sacrifices to achieve my goals and they have been all worth it. Now, I am excited to look ahead to this next phase of my swimming and academic career.
