Hello! I am Kendall McKelvey, a senior at Northgate High School and a member of the Northgate High School Swim team.
I have been swimming since I was six years old, and have swam with the Northgate Aquatics Club for a majority of those years. My journey with competitive swimming is quite an interesting one, considering I had really disliked the sport as a kid and was quite scared of practices and meets. Despite this past dislike, I’ve grown to realize how much the sport has truly become a part of me. I love the team aspect of swimming, the competitiveness, and the individuality each person can bring to a team.
I thrive on a team that knows how to work hard, values teamwork, and of course, loves to have fun. I’m a determined, optimistic individual that is not afraid to speak up about issues on my team, in my community, or even in the world. I’ve never been one to back down to from a challenge, and I’m very open to trying new things.
Throughout my years of swimming, I’ve learned to be comfortable with getting uncomfortable, and to know it’s okay if you need to take a break from things you know you love. I know in the future, I can continue to spread these lessons throughout whatever team I find myself on!
