“Take Your Mark” is a phrase I fell in love with when I was just 10 years old and joined the swim team in Aberdeen, South Dakota. Swimming has taught me many lessons both in and out of the pool. I have learned that it is my own dedication, efforts, and perseverance to work through challenges, that will lead to success. I have learned the value of coaches, mentors, teammates and family who offer support. These lessons are invaluable. I learned to set goals at an early age and was honored to achieve my first big goal to compete at Speedo Sectionals when I was 12. My goals vary each season as I continue to learn and grow in sport and individually, but I remain focused. In the fall of 2017 I suffered an injury to my knee that kept me out of the pool most of the winter season but I continued to work hard and make the best of the situation. I rejoined my team just 5 weeks before the State Meet and came back strong by setting a new age group State Meet Record in the 100 Fly. The satisfaction of seeing my work outside of practice was amazing, but more importantly to me was the fact that I was able to be part of the team again. Even when I can’t be in the pool, I will always be a cheerleader for those who can. My love for swimming is indescribable. I spend time encouraging the rest of the team with handwritten notes mailed to their homes, high-fives for a job well done and even an occasional treat. I also teach swim lessons through our club’s Learn To Swim program. I want children to love and appreciate the sport as much as I do.
Outside of the pool I am involved with many leadership activities promoting fitness, healthy life choices as well as academic achievements.
I would love to have the opportunity to continue swimming and being part of a team in college.
