I am a goal-driven person. Throughout my life I have set ambitious goals for myself in order to achieve my brightest future. Each day is a new opportunity to work hard. I am dedicated to my goal of getting into a good college or university. I do everything in my power to achieve this, from taking the most challenging courses available at my high school to swimming a harder interval at practice, to choosing events outside my comfort zone. I believe hard work can be more important than raw talent or natural gifts because I know how much success means to me when results don’t always come easily.
I put my passions first: school and swimming. They both make up the majority of my life. I have been a competitive swimmer for over half my life and don’t plan to stop anytime soon! I swim with my club team (SE-NAC) year-round, 6 days a week, for two hours a day without drive time, and participate in club and high school meets (travel meets & local) while maintaining a 4.4 GPA. I will not let my academics/grades fall. After practice, I have several hours of studying and homework to keep up my rigorous course schedule. As an only child I consider my teammates extended family. Being on one team since I was nine years old, some relationships have become almost as close as siblings to me. We celebrate each other’s triumphs and are there to support each other in disappointment, both in the pool and out. I truly love and value being a part of my team.
These demands don’t mean that I have no social life, just that I have learned how to set priorities and work diligently toward long-term goals, focus on what’s most important to me, and become proficient in time management. This is part of what sets me apart and makes me a good candidate for college swimming. Swimming is part of who I am and how I define myself. I do not take my place on a team lightly. Nothing is more important to me than the self-esteem I derive from doing my very best as a student and as an athlete.
I would offer a college swim team a dedicated, focused, driven, and enthusiastic athlete who could lead by example, being reliable and showing perseverance, while putting her strength and heart into every race. I push myself hard and am willing to do what it takes to improve my skills and reach the highest level my abilities and talents will allow. I hope recruiters and coaches can see I am a talented and eager applicant worthy of attention. Thank you!
