As Zig Ziglar once stated, “There are no traffic jams on the extra mile.” Beginning when I was five years old on my first swim team and continuing until today, my drive to consistently perform better is what separates me from my peers. I started swim lessons at age three and joined the competitive swim team soon thereafter at Nashville Aquatic Club (NAC) where I still swim twelve years later. My unwavering passion for swimming stems from my love of the water. The feeling of the water encompassing my body as my strokes cut through the surface motivates me to continue to practice no matter how tired I may feel.
Through my extensive career as a competitive swimmer, I have learned that practice will never make perfect, yet it will always make progress. Some of my most admirable qualities, including my work ethic, leadership, and support of my teammates, are attributable to the countless hours I spend at the pool. Swim practice not only helps me as an athlete, but it also creates a mindset that benefits my other interests outside of the pool, such as academics, dancing, singing, and baking. Swimming has also taught me about overcoming adversity, time management, and how to work effectively with different people. My diligence, integrity, kindness, and good sportsmanship will make me a strong asset to your swim team. I am Alex Glenn, Class of 2026.
