Hello Coaches!! I hope you are having a great day!! I am Abigail Ahrens, and I would love to swim in college. My ultimate goal is to final at Olympic Trials and swim competitively while pursuing a degree.
I believe I would be a good asset to a team because I am a bubbly hard working athlete who is a proven leader on my high school and club teams. I lead by example and am continuing to develop my vocal leadership skills. I believe “Attitude is Everything” and I maintain a mindset focused on continuous improvement and being a positive encourager to others. Those around me know my personality shows I love to have fun in the water, but at the same time I have a very strong work ethic.
I feel I have differentiated myself from others in that in addition to being very focused on excelling within the pool, I am proud of the way that I am well rounded and involved in organizations I’m passionate about. I play viola in Orchestra, am a member of a local chapter of the National Charity League, volunteer and support Addi’s Faith Foundation (fighting pediatric brain tumors & supporting families), am involved in church and I am also the LSC Athlete Representative for my club team. As an Athlete Rep with Gulf Swimming (LSC), I currently serve on two committees to better our swim environment. I also attended the inaugural LEAD Sports Summit (Sept. 2017) hosted by Kara Lynn Joyce, Missy Franklin, Elizabeth Beisel, with a confidence coach & nutritionist. What a great experience it was to help further develop my leadership skills and to reinforce how set goals, persevere, work on building mental strength and endurance, and using my confidence in the pool to be a better leader in the classroom as well.
I love school and am particularly proud of how I’ve been able to adapt along with my teammates to new schedules, different school, and completely different study & practice routines as Kingwood High School flooded in August (2017) due to Hurricane Harvey. I have been able to balance my swimming with my academics and managed an unweighted 3.7 GPA through my sophomore year. I've taken many many Pre-AP & AP classes including Algebra II, World History, Biology, Spanish, US History, and Environmental Science. With my advanced classes, I have a GPA of 4.9 (on a 5pt scale). I am ranked 75 out of 697 students.
I began Summer League Swimming with the Kings River Kingfish in our community when I was 6 years old. Like many other swimmers, I made friends, had fun, and learned early on that I am a competitor at heart. I joined USA Swimming’s Blue Tide Aquatics (“BTA”) three years later and have been swimming competitively year around since.
I have enjoyed good success and been very pleased with my experiences, continued improvement and success with BTA in Kingwood, TX. I have continued to improve in all strokes and qualified for SC Texas Age Group Championships in six events. I earned swims in finals in three events at Southern Sr. Zones in 2017, placing 2nd in the 200 Back (LCM) with a time of 2:20.69. My 200 Back (SCY) PR came in finals at Winter Jr.'s (West) this December and was the 17th fastest nationally combining the East & West results. I pride myself of being a diverse swimmer as evidenced by my IM-Xtreme ranking in December 2016 of 19th nationally. I'm looking forward to our H.S. State meet (Austin, Tx) this February and Jr. Nationals (in California) in August.
I have found a home on the Kingwood High School (Texas High School 6A Large School Division) making the Varsity team both of my first two years. Our women’s team earned 3rd place at State where I finaled in my 3 events, swimming the 100 back, 500 Free and the lead-off of the 200 Medley Relay. Earning All-State honors in these 3 events was an honor.
While I do not know exactly what I plan to study in college, I am currently leaning towards Psychology and am looking to attend an institution that offers competitive academics, as well as, athletics. I am excited to challenge myself and grow in my abilities both in the pool & in the classroom.
I truly love swimming, for all it offers, and look forward to continuing my swimming career in college. I am interested in learning more about the opportunities available and hope you consider me to be a part of your program!!
