My name is Emma Blackdeer and I am a Junior at De Forest High School. I can be characterized as committed, hard working, and optimistic. I always have a positive attitude toward my races which I feel is important for any sport, especially swimming. In high school, I am involved in National Honor Society, Student Council, DECA, FBLA, French Club, and Spanish Club. After my freshman year, I went to Costa Rica with my Spanish Club, and I will be going to Spain this year. I am also a DECA and FBLA officer at De Forest. Being on a swim team, being involved in school activities, and getting good grades is hard to manage, but I am able to make it work.
This will be my eighth year swimming for my local swim club DFAC Swimming. I swim my winter, spring, and summer season with DFAC Swimming and I swim for my High School swim team in the fall. My major accomplishments for High School are three-time conference champion in the 100 Breaststroke, two-time sectional champion in the 100 Breaststroke, three year state qualifier in the 100 Breaststroke, two year state qualifier in the 200 IM, honorable mention all-state in the 200 Medley Relay (Breaststroke leg, freshman), All State 200 Medley Relay (Breaststroke leg, junior), and honorable mention all-state in the 100 Breaststroke (sophomore and junior). My team has the accomplishment of winning conference my freshman, sophomore, and junior year, but the De Forest High School girls swim team has won conference ten years in a row. My team has also won sectional my sophomore and junior year. My times in the 100 Breaststroke, 200 Breaststroke, and the 200 IM have all qualified for Speedo Sectionals. I am still growing and gaining strength so I hope to improve my times as I get older and stronger.
I am looking for a college that will help me reach goal times. I am dedicated and productive so I am also looking for a college that will help me push myself to work hard. I am also looking for a college that has a strong team bond because I love cheering for my teammates and having team bonding activities. My ultimate goal would be to swim at the collegiate level with a swim scholarship. At this point, I would like to major in Marine Biology, but I have also been looking at other science related fields like Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, etc.
