Mackenzi Matson '20 Recruiting Profile

My name is Mackenzi Matson, and I'm from DeForest, Wisconsin. From an early age, I've enjoyed being part of a team, working with others, and making new friends. I feel that this carries through into my life now. Not only am I a part of both the McFarland Spartan Sharks club and DeForest High School swim team, but I am also a part of the DeForest High School FFA. I have learned the importance of teamwork and group cooperation through these activities, and have found fantastic friends and built strong relationships. I enjoy improving, not only because I feel accomplished for myself, but I know it helps my team when I do well. In the past few years, I've seen my hard work pay off in the pool, qualifying for multiple state meets both on club and my high school team, individually and on relays. In addition, I received my varsity letter both my freshman and sophomore year for high school swimming. I also feel that I work hard academically, always doing my best. As I mature, I am attempting to understand that I can always try again if something doesn't work out the first time. My goal is to explore a biology major that will prepare me for whatever I choose as a career in science. I enjoy learning about genetics, wildlife conservation, as well as marine sciences, though any work with plants and animals is enjoyable to me. I look forward to not only bettering myself, but contributing to a team at the college I choose.
