I would be the perfect candidate because I am resilient, determined, and proactive about solving problems and reaching goals. As a childhood cancer survivor, I recognize that every opportunity is a gift and with the right mindset anything is possible. I believe I can accomplish all of my goals - academic, athletic, career, and lifelong - if I approach everything with a combination of perseverance and compassion. In the coming year, I hope to grow as both a swimmer and a person.
As a dedicated swimmer, I always put 110% into the pool. I had to miss school for treatment for almost 3 years, which means I joined the team later than my teammates and had to catch up. This forced me to work extremely hard. I believe that is evident in my shortened swim times and achievements over the last three years. Last year I was able to break all my goals and go way beyond. My 50-free I swam a 26.42 and broke a minute in my 100 free. I was fortunate enough to make the 200-free relay at state. My split time was 25. 86.
After swimming competitively for three years, I have learned that it is never too late to chase a dream and no one ever succeeds alone. I love being part of a team because it’s a group of people working hard together toward one goal. I never thought I’d have the chance to swim at a collegiate level, and I feel lucky to be considered. I know I’d be a great addition to your team.
