Hello, my name is Emily Landwehr and I am from McFarland, Wisconsin, which is a small town on the outskirts of Madison, Wisconsin. I have been swimming competitively for seven years, but the water has always had a special place in my heart. For this reason, I couldn’t be more grateful to be a member of the McFarland Spartan Sharks. McFarland swimming established its legacy early on; difficult practices combined with high expectations became the norm.
I am in the midst of my senior year for McFarland High School and am still love with the sport, particularly the team atmosphere of swimming. I do little for myself in the sport of swimming; every set, every event, every workout that I do is to benefit my team, knowing that in turn, this success will also benefit me. This kind of team mentality is what led my high school team to take second place at last year's state meet. We wouldn’t have achieved this result if we had been swimming as eight individual swimmers as opposed to one team. In addition to this, I also volunteer coach our clubs eleven and under group each day after school for an hour. Coaching younger swimmers is the best time of my day because it gives me the opportunity to take what I have learned and give back to a younger generation of swimmers.
When people ask me what I swim, my response is always, “Everything.” My entire swimming career, I’ve never been just a sprinter, just an IMer, just a breastroker, or just a flyer. I swim anything and everything, and if my coach tells me they need me to swim a certain event, they can count on me to put my best effort forward.
I am committed to swimming in college and seeking a coach and program that will provide several challenges. The catch phrase student-athlete means a great deal to me-- I am searching for a university that is as great of a fit for me academically as it is athletically. Though I am not sure what exact area of study I would like to pursue, Health Sciences and Psychology have always been of great interest.
Thank you for your time in reviewing my profile and considering me for your program. I look forward to being a possible member of your team.
