My Mom is British and came to the States on a tennis scholarship at the University of Alabama. It was a life-changing experience for her, and I learned from an early age how this experience helped her obtain a graduate assistantship to get her Ph.D., and then go on to be a tenured professor and program chair while also being a Mom. She is my main coach, and because of her experience and honest account of 'student-athlete life', I feel like I know and understand what it takes to be successful both on and off the court in college. I am excited about the challenge of working hard and developing my tennis skills over the next four years in a team environment. Team tennis experiences (e.g. High School, Ozaki Cup, FL/So Challenge, Gold Team Challenge) have been most rewarding to me - I have made lasting friendships and memories. I feel like I make a bigger impact when competing in a team format. I'm more motivated to 'rise to the occasion' when others are depending on me and my match result is a deciding factor in the outcome. It also feels great to know that I can motivate and inspire my teammates by cheering them on. For the last 6 months, I've focused on my net game (transitioning, overheads, volleys, etc) and it's been awesome to see the payoff in my recent doubles tournament wins. I am looking forward to playing singles but also doubles in college where I'll have the opportunity to properly prepare for competition and a chance to win the first point in a dual match. I plan to maintain high grades in college, as I would eventually like to go to Law School and be an Attorney like my Dad. I haven't decided on a major/minor yet, but I am leaning towards Business.
