Hi, my name is Torye, I'm 17 years old and currently a Junior at Boulder Creek High School. My love for the sport and it's competition began at the age of 8 after enrolling in a summer tennis program at my local community center. I soon found out about USTA and before I knew it, I was registered for my very first tournament in 2010. I can remember holding the first place trophy alongside my brother when I was only 9, both of us eager to play another tournament again. Ever since, I have been devoted to training hard and becoming an experienced player.
I am very athletic and have played many sports in the past before I got attached to tennis. I can pick up on new ideas and learn quickly and easily. The support from my parents and coaches has helped me become the player I am today. My coach has helped impact my mental toughness greatly although I’m still improving day by day.
In October of 2016 Team ATA won a spot to compete at Nationals for Junior Team Tennis in the intermediate division in South Carolina. During Nationals, I went undefeated in girls doubles. Our team made our second appearance at JTT Nationals, this time in the advanced division, in September of 2017 in Orlando, Florida. Although we didn't place as high as I had hoped, we had some great matches, amazing experiences, and I bonded with my teammates. This experience brought the team closer together and created memories we'll never forget. Early May 2016 I was nominated and received the "Individual Community Service" award at my high school. I would love to play competitive tennis in college, but it is also important that I receive the education I'm striving to achieve.
