My name is Alyssa Kaumbulu-Docherty I am 15 years old 5'8" and 140 lbs. I attend Saint Mary’s College High School and am going into my junior year. I aspire to play collegiate tennis after graduation from high school, and then on to professional play.
As a freshman entering 9th grade last year I played on the St Mary’s College High School varsity team and was seeded the school’s No. 1 singles player…I lost one single’s match in league play and went First Team all league in the Tri-County Athletic League during the 2016-2017 school year. I led the St Mary’s team to the 2nd round of North Coast Sectionals. At the beginning of this season my private coach and hitting partner was Coach Nathan Jackmon.
As a sophomore last year I continued to play as the No. 1 singles player and had my ups and downs finishing 9-3 for my league record. I then went on to the TCAL League playoffs, I played doubles during the tournament placing second and being voted 1st team-All League. My partner and I then went on to play in the NCS Division 1 tournament and unfortunately lost in the second round. This season I continued to work and hit with Coach Nathan Jackmon.
I began playing tennis when I was 10 years old in Nichol Park in Richmond, CA. through the Richmond recreation department. Barbara Lewis coached me originally for 2 years. When I was 11, Wendy Guinn, began coaching junior tennis for the Richmond recreation department I began junior team tennis tournament play through USTA and played in the USTA 2013 Jr. Team championships in Fresno. We were playing 16s, and at that time and I was the second youngest player on the team at the age of 11.
In December of 2014, I played in my first international tennis tournament in West Palm Beach, Florida, in the “Little Mo” tournament.
I have played in several USTA tournaments, but did not play tournament during my freshman summer after the high school season ended. I played at the varsity level in women’s basketball during winter, and I played varsity level women’s softball during the spring. I was ranked as the #1 catcher in North Coast. We went on to win the NCS championships, which took me away from the spring tennis tournament season.
My UTR at the end of last year (2017) was a level 5. My plans are to play tournaments after my high school season.
I would love for you to see me in play.
Thank you for your time,
Alyssa Kaumbulu-Docherty
