On the court, I like to hit my lefty forehand into my opponent’s backhand and serve wide on the ad side. I don’t like to stand back and wait and I am willing to take risks during a match. Growing up in Brazil, I have also had the opportunity to train substantially on red clay, which has improved my footwork, though I have also trained on hard court.
For me, tennis isn’t just about sport and competition. While these are important factors, tennis has also taught me valuable lessons about life, community, and myself. I’ve learned the value of hard work and a good work ethic, as well as patience and sportsmanship. Living in Brazil, where economic disparity is stark, I have learned to appreciate the sport as an immense opportunity, and a privilege which many do not have. I also try to impart this gift onto others, by through coaching at clinics and little league and helping others in any way that I can.
I have a passion for learning and improving which extends beyond the court. Over the years, I have cultivated an undying intellectual curiosity. I enjoy every subject at school and I am especially interested in philosophy, physics, and math.
I recognize that playing college tennis is an incredible opportunity, and I hope to contribute to the sense of community, appreciation, and work ethic on your team. I would love to find a place where I can continue to improve in all aspects of my life, and I believe that my best tennis is yet to come.
