My name is Carissa Johnston, and I am a junior at San Clemente High School. I’m currently on the Varsity tennis team for my school. This past season on Varsity I mainly played singles, but I am a strong doubles player as well. I love the independence and athleticism it takes to play singles, but I equally enjoy the strategy and communication required for doubles. I have taken tennis lessons and played competitively since I was eight years old. I have competed in numerous USTA and UTR tournaments. I have not done as many tournaments since being in high school because I was prioritizing competing with the high school team and playing in matches with them. Academics are my top priority and I have maintained over a 4.0 throughout high school. I was team captain my sophomore year and I have won multiple awards from my coaches and teammates over the past couple years. I won the Sportsmanship award two years in a row and have been praised numerous times for my coachability and dedication to improving my game. Also, I won the coaches award at the Nike Tennis Camp this past summer. Outside of school and tennis, I can usually be found volunteering. I volunteer for multiple philanthropic organizations and charities such as Homefront America, CHOC Children's Hospital, and Make A Wish Foundation. I look forward to continuing my tennis career into college and I am determined to continue putting one hundred percent of my effort into my academics and tennis.
