Update: January 2021 - Torn labrum requiring surgery in February. I was determine to get back on court as soon as I could and spent the next 8 months working hard in rehab as well as working on my mental game and footwork. I returned to competition in October 2021. Due to my injury, I lost all points and ranking.
Playing tennis has taught me many life lessons, such as the importance of grit, hard work, leadership, sportsmanship, and time management. These lessons have helped me immensely with my academics at St. Margaret’s Episcopal School, which is a nationally ranked college preparatory school I have attended since preschool. My 8th grade field trip in 2019 was to Washington D.C. in which I won an essay contest and had the privilege of laying the wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns. This experience changed me in many ways, most importantly I really understood for the first time the sacrifices needed to make a difference. Working together, as a team to achieve a common goal also requires sacrifice, dedication and commitment. As a freshman on varsity I had a record of 51 wins and only 1 loss which earned me the rookie of the year award. Being on the tennis team brought me closer to my schoolmates and helped develop my leadership skills. Playing tennis, taking advanced classes and succeeding in both forced me to learn how to plan ahead, prioritize workload, and manage my time efficiently. It is important that I attend a college which is a fit for me both academically and athletically and a school that will challenge me to succeed. Tennis is my passion and performing at the highest level I can is what drives me, especially when the going gets tough. I simply won't give up, no matter what it takes, I will keep moving forward and putting in the time and effort to achieve my goals. I have big dreams and will do whatever it takes to make them come true. Along with tennis, I love studying Mandarin (which is important to me to continue in college) and Spanish, playing guitar, spending time with my parents and hanging with my friends and two cats. I know I have what it takes to be a student athlete in college and a valuable team player on and off the court.
