Personal Statement

Hello! My name is Izzy Massey, a Junior at Eureka High School, in St. Louis, Missouri. Two years ago, I was looking for a  fun sport to keep me in shape during the off-season of basketball and softball. Very quickly, I found a deep, growing love for the sport of tennis that overtook other passions and motivated me to try out for the tennis team at Eureka High School. I ended up being ranked in the #25-30 seeds on my JV team my freshman year during 2020-2021 season. My passion grew during my freshman high school season and I decided my main sports focus would be on tennis. I practiced frequently during the off-season by doing clinics, tournaments, and club practices to get me in the best shape for my Sophomore season. After all my hard work and perseverance, I was ranked #4 varsity for my sophomore year during the 2021-2022 tennis season. I found myself a home with my tennis team and was inspired day in and day out, wanting to give it my all for them. Through my first two years, I have found core values of teamwork, dependence, time commitments, bonds, and responsibility.

My passion for the sport my freshman year motivated me to do better.  I kept up my work and put more time into training. My hardworking, determined, and self-motivated personality allowed me to get on the court no matter the situation and give my all.  This unique personality doesn't stop on the court. With everything I do, I put 110% in. Whether it be a simple homework assignment, a major test, a club or organization needing something done,  or a major decision, I weigh out my options to find the best possible fit for me.

In the classroom, I am devoted to managing my time, social life, grades, and athletic life. I have been able to do this while maintaining a 4.0 GPA with AP/Honors classes as well. The constant desire to be the best person I can be not only for myself, but for friends, family, and peers as well, has led me to work non stop, but I will never back down from a challenge!

In hopes to play at the collegiate levels, I stand strong to my values of my determining work ethic, my defining/unique personality to not be who everyone else is but to stand out from the rest, and to never give up no matter the situation. I always stand strong and never back down from a challenge because I strongly believe that every obstacle is a possibility to grow without measure. Along with that, I have exposed myself to countless leadership opportunities allowing me to mature and grow to be a person of willingness, leadership, character, flexibility, and responsibility.
