Due to doing tennis all four years of high school I have found myself being passionate about the sport. I used to play tennis as a kid but did not feel motivation to pursue it thoroughly until the summer of my sixth grade year. When I went into high school as a freshman I was ecstatic to be part of the varsity tennis team and began as second doubles. From there I began looking at the sport competitively being first doubles my sophomore and second singles my junior year along with having the honor to be selected by our coach as the teams captain. As second singles I had to face girls that were challenging and even ones who had been playing tennis since they were little, and had won the tennis tournaments of our county. Despite this, I was able to push through and win the deciding match for my team at the 2018-2019 county tournament and made me appreciate the competitiveness of doing varsity tennis. Now as a senior being captain for a second year, and currently my team's first singles player, I stride to push my limits and see how far my passion for tennis can take me, pushing for the opportunity to play on a college tennis team. It was not easy balancing a sport that required full time commitment while taking all honors classes at my high school and doing activities such as Robotics and participating in prestigious science fairs such as Intel ISEF and international historical competitions like National History Day. Even more so, wanting to pursue a career in the medical field such as becoming a biomedical engineer where it is known to be male-dominated has at times discouraged me in my goals. However with the support of teachers and coaches I have been surpassing peoples' expectations and have been having more faith in my capabilities both as an athlete and as a student.
