What makes me different from other recruits is what I do outside of tennis. I am in the Air Force JROTC, which I am the community service event coordinator. I both create and find community service events in our area for our ROTC group to assist in. I have obtained over 80 hours of community service, and my goal is to exceed 200 hours by my senior year. I have coordinated visits to nursing homes, and assisted with local food banks. I have learned great leadership skills that added to my success in JROTC and on the tennis court. At the end of my Junior Year I was promoted to Group Commander of the Norwin ROTC. I look forward to my service and leadership responsibilities in my Senior year.
I started playing basketball in 2nd grade and played until I reached 9th grade. I played in both school teams as well as external teams such as SLAAM basketball. My current athletic trainer I met while playing basketball, and we have trained together ever since. We have turned the stamina and agility I developed for basketball into an advantage on the courts. In the summer before 9th grade I tried out and made the Varsity Tennis team. I fell in love with tennis and decided to dedicate my athletic time solely to the sport. I learned from basketball that you always need hustle, that's what separates you from other athletes. This holds true for tennis and has helped me be a successful player. At the end of my first varsity season I was voted most improved, and at the Extreme Tennis camp at Slippery Rock University I was awarded the most determined athlete. In the past 3 years I have made my High School Varsity team each year. I earned the first singles spot my Junior Year out of 21 total players, 11 of which were Juniors and Seniors. This year I also taught tennis camps with Coach Joe Camillo, formerly the coach of Duquesne University, and assisted with camps at my high school to promote interest with younger players.
My goals for tennis are to improve my overall national ranking, work hard to win many tournaments with my team and to become a role model for others. I truly feel my best tennis is still ahead of me!!
