Hello!! Thank you for taking the time to learn a little bit about me. I am Paraskevi Briegel (Paras for short), and I am a rising senior tennis player at Stroudsburg High School. I started playing tennis later than most people, which gives me an advantage, as my passion for the game continues to grow. Every time that I step onto a tennis court, I am ready to work to pass other players who may have had more tennis experience.
I would describe myself as a very motivated student and athlete, as I am ranked 3rd in a class of over 400, maintain a perfect 4.0 GPA, and took four AP courses this past year as well as being re-elected as my class Treasurer. Along with playing tennis, I am involved in both athletic and academic clubs and societies. My hobbies include playing piano, singing and dancing in both Junior High and now High School show choir, and the school musical. I am a three-time FBLA State Qualifier, as well as a 2019 FBLA National Qualifier for 3D Animation. Leadership positions that I have held are among being chosen as a part of the National Honors Society, as Mini-THON Executive, and the Greek Orthodox Youth Association President for the past two years. I am a Choir Council Representative, Student Government Representative, Varsity Tennis Captain, and Peer Tutor.
I am a back-to-back PIAA District XI AAA District Singles Champion, going undefeated both years. I competed at the PIAA AAA State (largest schools) Singles Championship. In 2020, I became the first ever girl from my school to medal at states, finishing 4th. I have amassed over 50 USTA wins including winning five tournaments. I am currently ranked 40 singles in Middle States 18u, despite playing limited events. My UTR has risen steadily from mid 4's to 6.2 over the past 15 months. I recently competed at both Ed Krass and Donovan Tennis Showcase, where I won 8 of 9 matches, several of which were against players with higher UTRs.
I am athletic and fit, and love being active. Prior to tennis, I enjoyed playing basketball on both my school and travel team and ran track my freshman year. Although I no longer play these sports, I loved competing with a team. To continue immersing myself in a team setting, I play club tennis for Northwood Select 18u. We recently won our section and will be playing Middle States Sectionals, where I went undefeated in junior team tennis this year, primarily playing singles.
I enjoy being a teammate, helping others work hard, being accountable, and achieving success. I cannot wait to further my academic and athletic activities at the collegiate level!!
