I started playing tennis when I was just 2 years old. But soccer was always my main sport, until about 4 years ago when I discovered how much tennis meant to me. As soon as I started playing with kids two or three years older than me, I knew I just wanted to keep getting better and better, and I loved it. Whenever I enter the court any worry or bad feeling disappears, and it is just me, the ball, and my racket. Tennis can be a very challenging sport mentally. I actually was so close to not playing in the individual championship my freshman year, because of how stressful it seemed to me. But once I forced myself out on the court, it all came together and I pulled through with the win. Now I am focused on getting more confident in my game, and playing for the love of the sport. When I attended the tennis camp at IMG this past February, I learned a lot of new ways to look at the game. I was told by Coach Ricardo that "tennis is like life, every ball is a challenge and it's just you who has to solve that challenge." From now on in my tennis game, this quote will stick with me, and I will bring it to every practice and match.
