Hello! My name is Carlota Garibay Romero. From the moment I first played tennis 4 years ago, I instantly fell in love with the sport. My goals for my tennis career are to become the first female mexican player to reach number 1 in the state during my highschool career, get a full ride scholarship for college, become pro and be able to play in a grand slam or masters tournament for my first WTA or ATP points. I have always found myself as a very determined and hard working person since I was born. I was born premature and the doctors told my mother that I wasn't going to live. When my mom told me this story it really became a huge part of my identity for never giving up and always striving to be the best on court and off court. I am very competitive and always strive for the best results on court. I never back down from a challenge and I always find myself thriving when the situation gets stressful and tough. I am a team player and very supportive of my teammates while I look out for them and for myself. Tennis has taught me to build character, it has formed my mind in many ways from giving me tools to cope with stressful situations and to be more mature and independent. I have always been into sports since I was little. I lived in China for 2 years because of my dad’s work and took up soccer and gymnastics. After a few years moved back to the States and picked up dancing for many years finally landing on Tennis when Covid started. I have always loved the way working out and being competitive has made me feel and the challenges/outcomes it has given me. Academically I always strive to get good grades, I was diagnosed with dyslexia and dyscalculia when I was younger but I’ve never seen it as a disability but more of an opportunity. I have learned many new ways to solve problems, write and be able to grasp hard concepts. Being able to have the resources to find new ways of learning also built my empathy to help others and be willing to share what I know to help people out.
