I truly love running and competing. I have come to realize that running is important to me not only because I enjoy it and the physical health benefits but also for the mental health that goes along with it.
Growing up, I always ran faster than my classmates, but I did not become interested in being a competitive track athlete until middle school. Gymnastics was my primary focus until I decided to stop because continuing gymnastics would have required me to be homeschooled so I could train longer. I wanted to attend school with my friends like most kids. I think I gravitated to hurdles early because of my gymnastics training which increased my natural coordination, balance, and core strength. Hurdles are my best events but I enjoy the comradery competing in relays. My coaches and Dad have encouraged me to train for the heptathlon which I am considering.
I want to continuing running competitively in college. However, even if I do not earn a spot on the track team in college, I know that I will continue running and competing throughout college and the rest of my life.
