Hello, my name is Katalina Robinson and I am ending my junior year at Lee Williams High School participating in track and field, soccer, and cross country. I started running track when I was in 4th grade and started cross country in 5th grade when I realized how much I love to run and compete. I love track and field and cross country because they are both sports where you compete as an individual but still train and bond as a team. During the 2020-2021 school year I tried out for my school soccer team for the first time and, even though I had no experience with the sport, made the junior varsity team. I have always loved running and that is why I started track and field and cross country, and I am hoping to continue competing during college.
My events in track are the 100m, 100m hurdles, 300m hurdles, 400m, 800m, 1600m, 3200m, and I have been part of the 4x100m relay, 4x400m relay, and 4x800m relay. In my freshman and sophomore years, I only ran distance, but in my junior year, I decided to try some sprints and hurdles. I enjoyed hurdles and I am glad I tried them. I also run the 5k for cross country. In both of my first two years of cross country, I had been very close to making state, but had an off day at sectionals and just missed out. This year, however, I qualified as an individual and was the only girl from my team to make state. I finished 62nd in the Division III Cross Country State Championships, almost 40 places higher than I was ranked. In track, I didn't get the opportunity to try to make state my freshman year and was very close in the 3200m my sophomore year. My junior year, I was very close to qualifying in the 300m hurdles, even though it was my first year trying hurdles, and the 4x800m relay. I am training during the off-season to ensure that I start the season in shape so I can have the best performance possible.
Academics are very important to me as well. I have always held myself to very high standards and kept good grades. It is very important to me to keep straight As and to continue to improve my 4.3 GPA with honors and college dual credit classes next school year. I have been in the Cambridge Program, an advanced program from Cambridge University, through my school since 7th grade. It allows me to start taking dual credit classes as a junior. Also, when I was in first grade, I tested out and was moved up to second grade, so I will probably be about a year younger than the rest of your class of 2023 recruits. I would like to be a veterinarian so I know how important it is to always try your best and focus on what you are doing, so I try to apply that to all aspects of my life. I know that academics are more important that athletics, and that grades should always come first.
Thank you for your interest in me and I am excited to see where track and cross country can take me in life, and all the amazing experiences and lessons that come with it.
