Hi, my name is Hailey Goodell and I am starting my junior year at Arroyo Grande High School. I competed in varsity track and cross country both my freshman and sophomore years. Unlike most runners my age, I only started running my freshman year and received my first training plan during my sophomore year of track. I have also kept low mileage (i.e. less than 25 miles per week) and still managed to run fast times.
After going through my best and most thorough summer training program an early Sept. ankle injury (suffered on the track at practice) resulted in a very disappointing Cross country season. I was only able to run two races (that were treated as training runs) before one of our team Orthopedic doctors put an end to my season because of my ankle’s instability. I am staying positive and treating this as an opportunity to get strong for track season. I am working with a physical therapist not only on my recovery but also to help prevent future injuries to it. With the help of the Physical therapist and Orthopedic doctor, I am on track to be running again December 1. In the meantime, I have been putting in hours in the weight room to improve my strength and am cross training in the pool and on the bike to help maintain my cardio/fitness. I am determined to come into track season stronger and more determined than ever.
In college, I’m looking to compete at the highest level on the track and in the classroom. I have an extremely hard work ethic and I will do whatever it takes to get into a top school. Academics are very important to me. Last year I earned a 4.5 GPA, ranking 3 out of 488 students and I am taking 5 AP classes this year (my 1st qtr GPA 4.83).
I absolutely love running and I know that I can contribute both as a scoring runner and as a leader!
