I began running track in 7th grade and was instantly drawn to the added challenge of the hurdle races specifically. It wasn't until my first track meet that I fell in love with the sport and everything surrounding it. Once I got into high school I was able to compete in both the 100 and 300 hurdles, as well as the 4x400m relay. After my freshman season, I was awarded my first varsity letter as well as MVP. When my sophomore season came around I faced an injury that prevented me from accomplishing the goals I had set for myself. It was at that time that I decided that I would no longer continue soccer and focus solely on track and field because it made me the happiest. I joined a track club over the summer where I was introduced to events that I had never gotten to experience such as long jump, high jump, javelin, and the 400m hurdles. It was at that time that one of my coaches introduced the idea of the heptathlon.
My high school, club, and Jr Olympics have not allowed me the opportunity to participate in a heptathlon yet, so at the advice of my coaches, I have been introducing myself to the various events of the heptathlon just to have marks to show until the opportunity presents itself. For example; I have thrown javelin 4 times with a distance of 63 feet, I've only had the opportunity to high jump twice, but I am looking forward to further training to improve upon my 4'6" scissor kick. I ran a couple of 800s and am sure I can easily improve my time of 2:47. I'm most proud of my PR in the long jump seeing as I have only been jumping for a couple of months.
My ultimate goal is to participate in the heptathlon throughout college. I have much to learn throughout the rest of my track and field career and am more than willing to put in all the same hard work that it has taken to succeed as a Scholar-Athlete toward my heptathlete career.
