My name is Jasmine Phipps and one of my dream goals is to run track at the professional level. I have been competitive my entire life. In track I hope to compete at the highest level possible and I am willing to do what it takes to be the best. I know that success is intentional. Growing up raised by two successful parents, I’ve always felt this pressure to succeed as an individual. I’ve always wanted to be known for my personal achievements not known because of my parent’s achievements. I want to make a name for myself through my success. I know success is not achieved by accident and it doesn’t matter how many times I fail, success comes from learning in failed moments. I am a fighter and I have learned to persevere. As a teammate, I bring a positive and uplifting attitude to every practice and track meet.
My sophomore track season was when I had finally broken 13 secs in the 100 meters. I finally pr’d that year and ran a 12.69, I also pr’d in the 200 that season with a 26.7. I trained all winter and into the spring, but due to COVID-19 the 2020 track season was cancelled. I was very disappointed, but I decided that I would continue to train because my goal time in the 100m dash is 11.8s and 23.6s in the 200m. I was well on my way to achieving that this track year. I know with commitment to training and hard work, I can achieve that time this year.
I want to become a motivational speaker to better this generation and show that success is possible no matter how impossible it may seem. I want to major in communications because it would help me understand how to utilize many levels of communications, including marketing, public relations and intercultural communication. I helped start an organization called Girls With Success. Our mission is to help girls discover themselves, find their purpose in life and find a vision and take it to the next level. We help young girls through an online platform. Since I’ve started my entrepreneurial journey at a young age, my college plan includes my communication major with a business minor to help me build my skill set and my brand.
During the COVID pandemic, I decided to start writing a book about success and achievement. I decided that it was important for me to get started right away with pursuing my dreams and goals. Writing my book has taught me many lessons about what it takes to be successful, what it takes to be a winner, and what it takes to be great. I want to use all of the things that I’ve learned personally and through researching great achievers to be the best possible athlete that I can be.
