What makes me different from other recruits is that I work hard and diligently year round. I have been working out since the age of one, and know how to train and compete when its game time. Prior to the pandemic, I had decided to no longer compete in gymnastics and had a exit plan but the pandemic changed everything (including being able to work with a track club). With my previous commitment to gymnastics I was used to training up to 25 hours a week, year round so working hard is not new to me.
With the pandemic, I had to pivot and work on improving my strength and learn how to strengthen my running skills looking at different types of training to improve my skills. (Ie. hot yoga, yoga, strength & conditioning, weight training, plyometrics, swimming...) With adding these types of exercises to my toolbox, it has helped me not only stay in shape but also remain focused on my goals. I have also been working out with a trainer who is a specialist in body movements, to help teach me how to run properly and correct any bad habits.
In previous years (Middle school) I was very successful as an untrained runner--remember I was a gymnast. But in 2021, I was able to really for the first time able to train with a track coach and help me improve my form and teach me specifics to improve my running. With the pandemic, our 2021 track season (High School) was cut short, we only had two meets but I know I can improve my times. During my Personal Best, I know what I did wrong as soon as it occurred. I look forward to being able to compete in more meets and fix my errors to be able to reduce my times.
I am undecided in what I want to pursue in college, but my current goals are to get into the college that is the best fit for me where I can also run track and field.
