As being a self motivated athlete beginning at the age of 12, running has always given me the spark to develop a passion in me. I first became a part of my marathon running team, when little did I expect it was going to become a part of me. Running helped me to obtain a coping skill for my suicidal depression, helping me overcome many obstacles, and building me into a mentally strong young lady, I am today. I’ve had the ability to win many first place competitions in my running career, and make it onto city finals for cross country and track. Having the ability to soon become a first generation student-athlete at the college level in my household, will take full advantage of my goals and the pride I strive in giving to my family. In the 8th grade, you don’t really know what you want to be or what you simply want, what I did know was that I wanted to represent the United States in a national running competition. Ever since that time period, I’ve worked hard and disciplined myself to reach my goals. Currently as being captian of my cross country and track & field team, I’ve developed leadership skills to help and teach others of what I gained through running. Speaking motivation into them, coaching them at a high extent, and inspiring them to strive for their goals will always give me the feeling in remembering why I run. Beyond further more, I strongly believe that a college level team needs runners who are willing to work hard, runners who have the same level of passion, runners who are self motivated, and runners who work together as a team to reach their goals. I, Maria Jimenez, am ready to put my knowledge and hard work for your team. This is a brief summary, but don’t hesitate to contact me for more of my full story.
