Hi, my name is Jasmine. I am a person who has always liked running, so track is a natural fit. I started my running career by participating in elementary school cross country. After that, I knew I wanted to participate in middle school track. In 6th grade, I ran the mile and found that distance is not my forte. One of my close friends asked me to try triple jump because she was the only one in that event, so I did. I loved it and have been triple jumping ever since! I also enjoy participating in sprint relays because of the challenge of perfecting handoffs and the camaraderie of the teams.
At the beginning of my high school career, I made a goal of being a three-sport athlete for all four high school years. In addition to track, I also enjoy playing basketball and softball where I was Junior Varsity captain this year in both sports. Outside of athletics, I relax by reading and painting. My favorite academic subjects are history, math, and science. I am looking at a career in medicine, biology, or criminology. I consider myself to be committed, determined, coachable, and a leader.
At the beginning of the COVID shut down, I hoped that track would still happen, but my sophomore season got canceled. Without athletics, my academic performance and my mental performance declined. Having track as a stress relief makes my day better and I know I struggle living without it. I feel that athletics help to make me who I am and for this reason, I desire to continue competing in track at the college level.
