My name is Madison Murray, and I’m from Jacksonville, FL. I attend Providence School and plan to graduate in 2019. I have played a sport for as long as l can remember, starting with soccer at age 4. My interest in track began in 6th grade when my friends and I decided to try it. However, my enthusiasm for the high jump and 4x800m increased in the 8th grade after placing 1st in the high jump in our Independent Middle School Conference meet by jumping 4’11’’ and also placing1st in the 4x800m relay with a time of 10:12. At the Florida High School State meet (FHSAA) we came in 4th place in the 4x800m with a time of 10:02 as 8th graders! Winning got me excited to want to be able to jump higher and run faster.
I would love to be able to compete in the high jump and other track events in college for several reasons. First, I love to push myself to be the best I can be both on and off the track. I want to see how far I can succeed in the HJ with proper education, instruction, and competition that jumping in college would allow. Secondly, I would love the opportunity to be able to represent my college in a positive way through my athletic ability. Lastly, I enjoy the social aspect of track whereby I can meet other students and share the trails of training and the joys of competition and success.
I’m searching for the college that would allow me to not only excel on the track and field, but also in the classroom. I want a college that has a well-known reputation where I can study exercise science/pre-medicine, and have access to excellent teachers and resources in the community.
Here is a motto that I discovered during 8th grade that motivates me to keep pushing myself toward reaching my goals:
“ If you want something you’ve never had, then you’ve got to do something you’ve never done.”
