I never expected to join the track team when I started high school. My freshman year I sustained a minor back injury during basketball season and was unable to participate in many of the physical education activities, however, my P.E coach (also the head track coach) required me to attempt the throwing events during the track unit in gym class. I ended up throwing further than any of the current female throwers on the team. Even after that I was hesitant to join the team but after several days of being hounded by the track coach, I gave in. Joining the track team was the best possible decision I could of made my freshman year as it allowed me to realize my potential as an athlete and become a more dedicated person not just in athletics.
I plan on working hard during my undergraduate years in order to prepare myself for graduate school where I hope to study law. I have not done track and field for very long but I hope that I can continue my sports career on a collegiate level. I have played sports throughout my life and I have learned the importance of being a team player, being dedicated, and being able to manage my time well in order to not just receive academic success but athletic success as well. I am willing to dedicate my time in order to improve at this sport and compete to the fullest extent of my abilities.
