I have run track since seventh grade and joined the varsity team at the start of high school. When I joined varsity I decided to give hurdles a try because it added an extra challenge to the sport, which I always look for. Since it is more technical, I get to focus on mastering more things than just the running aspect itself. It keeps my mind engaged all the time having to concentrate on perfecting every little element of the sport. When I fall, I don't like to let it discourage me. I think of it more as a lesson for me to focus on what I did wrong and fix it the next time. I always strive to be the best version of myself and look for self-improvement all the time. Breaking personal records is the most important to me because it lets me see how far I’ve come in the process, and that all the hard work and training I put in actually pays off in the end. Hurdling helped me realize that I will fail at some times, but I can’t let that stop me from working to improve myself.
Throughout the remainder of high school, I aspire to finish with a 4.3 GPA and at the top of my class. In college, I would like to be in an environment where I am challenged academically and athletically, as I would love to continue my hurdling career into the collegiate level.
