Personal Statement

Track. I never thought I’d fall in love with sprinting or simply running. When I was in was younger in Kaneohe Elementary I was on the school's Physical Fitness Team (3 years) and it was a great branching out opportunity where I made new friends and broke out of my shell. It was also my first exposure to track. The fitness team was started in 2010 and it ended in around late May 2013 when I got promoted to seventh grade. Little did I know that when elementary was over so was my track career, I did no track until my sophomore year in high school (2017; 4 years later). I think it's safe to say my first inter-scholastic competitive track season was a success. And that it was then that track stole my heart. It has become a part of who I am, it reflects me as a person.

Most people dread track and most of my peers find crazy that I love track... they don't realize that it's not the sport in itself but the experience. From meeting new people, going to college for the track program, and even finding yourself, through it all you change. It truly changed me. Through the beginning of my track journey I've learned more about myself, I've been more focused, I have a stronger determination for anything and everything I do, and it also opened my eyes to understand more about others.

In my eyes being a good runner whether you agree or not, is hard, it takes time, responsibility, respect, ambition, dedication, and so many more qualities.  You can physically be a good runner because of genetics or because you've worked for it. For those of us who've started from the bottom or shaved off a couple seconds in a season, that's when the qualities of a good runner show. I don't only value or benefit from my running abilities but also who it' has made me. I've asked my best friend what she thinks track did to me and she said, " It made you more confident in your abilities and as a person. It made you more focused in sports and school and also has drawn your attention to college and a possible collegiate track career. All you talk about is track... every second of the day.  Shut up."  I guess I'm a little track crazy.

Of my immediate family, I will be the first going to college and I'm the oldest child. It'd be nice to show my siblings that it's good to have dreams and that you have to really want it and work for it. Since my last track season going to college, playing sports, and being to pursue what I want, is my dream and another part of that dream is wanting to aspire my younger siblings. I want to set the bar high so they see it's possible and they can do more. What I want in college and outside of sports, is to pursue a degree a career in Physical Therapy and/or Physical Training. In my life after... I'll figure it out and show my family and everyone what I'm capable of.
