Determined, motivated, never giving up, and outgoing, yes, that’s me Madi P. Raised by a single mom impacted my life greatly. Watching my mom work extremely hard to support me and my siblings helped me become the hard worker that I am today. She's the reason I don't give up and I'm always willing to push myself. Quitting is not an option, no matter how hard it gets. My desire is to do well in school and pursue my college career in nursing. This will allow me to have a better future and to be able to help others in need. I am currently a senior at Castle High School, and I play on the girls varsity soccer team. I enjoy school. I work part-time at Zippy’s, a restaurant in Kaneohe. And this is my last year participating in the KScholars program, which is an educational enrichment program with a focus on college and career guidance.
I’ve faced many challenges in my life, which only made me stronger. My dad leaving my family when I was 5 years old was the biggest challenge for me. But I learned to overcome growing up without him. Eventually I learned to focus on the good things and blessings that I had without a dad being around. I also moved forward in life by enjoying each day and everything in it. Always remaining happy. I'll always love my dad, even though he's not in my life. Growing up without a dad meant my siblings and I only had my mom and each other of course. Which made us all very close. My sister Jenai, who’s right above me, is the closest to me. We were the last two siblings in our house. She’s the first in my immediate family to attend a 4 year university. She will be graduating with a bachelors in nursing in the year 2021. She’s currently a cadet in the ROTC program at UNLV. After she graduates, she’ll be commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant, working as a nurse in the Army . She inspires me everyday, reminding me that I can do all things if I’m able to put my mind to it. My mom always encouraged us to get a better education then she could, and never to let finances get in the way of achieving our goals. With both me and my sister in college next year, I know it'll be tough for her, but I plan to try my best to help out in any way I can. Be the best student I can in high school as well as college.
It has always been my dream to become a nurse practitioner. I won't stop at doing my best to achieve this. In 5 years I see myself graduated with my BSN, working as a registered nurse. At the same time, I will be pursuing my graduate degree to become a nurse practitioner. In 10 years, I would like to be working in a hospital in Hawaii as a nurse practitioner. I hope to pay off all my student loans and own a home of my own by then too.
Because of accomplishing my college goals, and becoming a Nurse Practitioner, I’ll finally be able to fulfill my plan to give back to my community. Growing up, I was taught in church that through life, some people will plant seeds, some will come by and water them, and some will harvest the fruit. I understand now what that means. Life will teach you lessons (the seeds), in many different ways, you will have experiences (the water) that will help you to grow, and lastly you will be able to give back to others (the harvest) in perfect time. My passion is to take care of those in need around me. Not just in the hospital but everywhere I go. I want to take the knowledge I will gain from college and use this to better my community by working in the healthcare field, at a hospital, at a school, or a even a doctors office. Wherever that may be, I will be contributing to the healthcare industry for those who are ill, and in need of help. And I will continue to remain happy...
