Katelyn Hutchison '18 Recruiting Profile

My name is Katelyn Hutchison I run the 100 and 200 meters, I also throw. As a freshman I won the Chicago Public Schools Freshman/ Sophomore 200 meter championship. My goals are to participate at the collegiate level and to obtain a duel degree in Communication/Journalism and Psychology. I’ve been told I’m one of those athletes who can run and throw. I’m currently second in the school records with a 85’-5” discus, and for shot put I’m second with 31'.10". I also have first place in the 100 meter dash with 12.94 seconds and second in the 200 meter with 26.37 seconds.

As a freshman I was given the team’s most valuable athlete award, although I don't entirely see it. I'm often called the team cheerleader because whether I'm having an excellent meet or a not so great meet, I always make sure everyone on the team feels appreciated. I accomplish this by cheering and constantly running back and forth on the infield encouraging my teammates. I love making sure that everyone on my team feels like they are apart of the team.

I currently have a unweighted 3.61 GPA and a weighted 4.71 GPA, with all honors and AP courses. I'm also member of the National Honor Society. Playing three sports (including volunteer work most weekends) and maintaining a 3.61 GPA is difficult, but I’m always willing to push in my academics and athletics to get to the places I desire to be. When I’m not competing or cheering on my teammates at a meet, I’m using those few minutes to get a head start on my papers and other homework.
