Hi, I am Carolina Martinez a rising Senior at Warren Township High School in Gurnee, IL.
In seventh grade, I stumbled upon track and immediately fell in love with the sport. I worked hard and managed to make it to the state level. Unfortunately, COVID-19 hit, and my eighth-grade track season was canceled. But in High School, I bounced back and started playing Varsity Basketball and Track. However, I soon realized that my true passion lies in running track. So, I shifted my focus from basketball to track and gave it my all. Since then, I have been working hard every day to improve my skills, time and achieve my goals. Running track has become an integral part of my life, and I am excited to see where this passion takes me at the collegiate level. I have experience running the 100m, 200m, 400m, and various relays.
During the spring track season of 2023, I had the opportunity to compete at the IHSA State level with my 4x400MR team. The experience was truly amazing and it gave me the motivation to work even harder towards my goals. I am also proud to say that I will be competing in the 400m at the AAU Junior Olympics, which will take place on August 4, 2023, at Drake University. I am excited to see what the future holds and I am determined to continue pushing myself to be the best athlete I can be.
Additionally, my passion for sports has led me to pursue a major in Sports Broadcasting/Communications while focusing on track during my college years. I consider myself a role model and leader who is empathetic, has integrity, and has a strong work ethic, along with being a supportive teammate. I thrive on challenges and setting goals for myself. Whenever I'm faced with a challenge, my competitive spirit kicks in and I'm ready to tackle it head-on. I am also a Pediatric Cancer Survivor, an experience that has shaped who I am today.
Thank you for taking the time to read a little bit about me!
