I have been a runner my entire life! When I was younger, I used to run 5k road races with my dad. Then, once I could run farther, I would run the last leg of 50k or 50 mile trail runs with him. In elementary school I participated in Track Day every year and placed 1st in the 400 and long jump. Once I was in junior high, I joined the track team. I ran 100 meter hurdles, 4x200 meter relay, and the 200 meter dash. I also did long jump. My 4x200 meter relay team went to state in 7th and 8th grade. My 8th grade year I went to state individualy in the 200 meter dash.
My freshman year of high school I ran 100 meter hurdles, 4x200 meter relay, 300 meter hurdles, and 4x400 meter relay. Half way through my freshman year season, I suffered a concussion from 100 meter hurdles. I was unable to compete the rest of my freshman season. I suffered from a few more concussions from horse accidents, and could not compete again until the second half of my sophpmore season. Even though I had been out for a year, I came back incredibly strong and took my 4x400 meter relay team to state. My strong character, motivation, and perseverance will be a remarkable addition to any team. I never let my injuries get the best of me and I made sure I came back stronger than ever. My junior year season was my first complete season since 8th grade so I mostly focused on staying healthy and getting stronger. I had several best times and I am very confident in my season this year. To help me get even stronger, and have an extra edge for my senior season, I participated in cross country. I would love to run cross country in college as well. I am very excited to see where this year will take me. In college, I would like to participate in heptathlons. My coaches have always told me that I would be perfect for heptathlons because of my endurance, speed, versatility, and character. I am also confident in my ability to do heptathlons because I have done several of the events already. I have already run 100 meter hurdles and the 200 meter dash, as well as doing high jump and long jump. This year I plan on running the 800 and throwing shot put to see what I can do. I recently ran the 55 meter high hurdles at an indoor meet at Eastern Illinois University. This was the first time I had done high hurdles in three years and my coaches were very impressed that I had the guts to make it through, as well as the correct form.
I am very excited to see where this year will take me and I cannot wait to start my college track and cross country career next year. Thank you for your consideration.
