Participating in my high school varsity cross country team has made a positive impact on how I saw high school. From playing recreational soccer from kindergarten to eighth grade, I began to notice one of the main reasons I liked playing it: running. In middle school, I found running in cross country to be more than just a way to live a healthy life, but it gave me a sense of tranquility. I found camaraderie with my teammates that continued to build. I was fortunate enough to be part of a phenomenal running program in my high school. Not only did we run in the fall, but we also had winter conditioning and summer running. Cross country helped me discover the importance of dedication, teamwork, patience, sacrifice, and friendship.
Running has helped mold me into not only a strong athlete, but a well rounded individual. Academically, I challenge myself through a myriad of rigorous courses. In addition, I work a part time job at a local smoothie franchise, volunteer at church, and publish poems in my school’s literary magazine. Furthermore, having a large family, I babysit younger siblings and help around the house. As a student-athlete who has put in the effort, I am most certain that I possess the skills to be a valuable member on your team, because in the end, all that really matters is participating in a sport that I love.
