My career as a high school athlete started in the spring season of my freshmen year. I didn't plan on competing or being good, however that quickly changed when I discovered hurdling. The track quickly became a space of comfort for me and allowed me to empty my head. My school has had trouble finding coaches for sprints and hurdles and for my first season I had a senior hurdler coaching me. He was great but graduated and I had no coach for a bit. Then, we got a coach for our indoor season. Once the pandemic began, he got an offer from another school to coach; since then I have not had a coach. In my time not having a coach I have managed to break a school record, come extremely close to a county record, go undefeated in my indoor junior season and go almost fully undefeated in my junior outdoor season. I have become very self motivated and learned to coach myself. I am able to adapt to coaches and learn while holding onto what I know works best for me. Track helps me to stay motivated off the track as well. It helps me to stay on top of my work and keep my grades as high as possible. In college I hope for similar circumstances. I want track to be somewhere for me to empty my mind and focus on competition. I love being competitive and accomplishing athletics goals like making new personal records. I am looking forward to competing with new and harder competition and seeing what I can accomplish in my college track and field career.
