When I was young, I could not comprehend why people would choose to run in circles and be in pain. However, joining the cross-country and track teams has shown me more about my potential than anything else. I went from a kid with low endurance who struggled to run a mile to the cross-country Dual County League (DCL) Champion and runner of the year in 2021. As my training paid off, I applied this same grit to studying and am a high honors student. Most importantly though, running has taught me how to be a leader.
Most people view cross-country and track as individual sports, but I have learned that this is the furthest thing from the truth. When I am hurting during a race or a practice I know that my teammates are too and that we are all fighting for the same team glory. This has made me appreciate my teammates even more and when I was named cross-country captain this season I challenged myself to encourage them to run to their potential. The highlight of my running career came this year at DCLs where I did not PR or win, but my team won for the first time in school history. Overall, I want to continue to run in college to push myself, be a part of a team, and grow as a teammate and leader.
